This is so wonderful, Ned. I love the feeling of it, and I like that you post all your steps. The building up of paint and color is fun to see. Are you painting with gouache?
It’s acrylic, but I use it a little bit like gouache – just thicker. This is pretty large, about 22 x 30 because I wanted to be able to paint the kids small in a large forest with lots of stuff. It’s funny, the last, warmer image is scanned and is much closer to the original colors than the others which were photographed. Speaks well to scanning technology.
This has great energy– I want to be there running with the animules.
Here’s what it sounds like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOMvezbP90Y
Totally what it sounds like.
We’re there with the children!!! What a wonderful picture to take one into nature and the world around us–and, yes, to experience the excitement, the wonder of it all! The painting draws us in–to hear, feel, see the forest and all its inhabitants–in all their amazing color and texture! Great job! Keep on keeping on! We would love to buy a book with illustrations like this one!!!
